We made it! After several weeks of holiday parties and celebrations, we have said goodbye to family members, week old fruitcake, and cleaned up all the wrapping paper. New Year means new resolutions and goals we set for ourselves, it is such an exciting time as we come down from the holiday season. If you’re like me though, the holidays change up your routine and by the end of it have you feeling a little whacky. My husband really inspired me for this week’s post to talk about how we get back into the daily routine after the holiday season!
- Rise and Shine
I know sleeping in has felt amazing! I am already missing my mornings with coffee and the Crown as I stay snuggled in my warm bed. But start by getting up earlier each day and returning to your normal morning routine. Even if this means treating yourself to your favorite Starbucks drink to get going, it’ll make waking up that first day back less scary.
You don’t have to go to a killer workout to get back into the swing of things, just moving around helps. The weather hasn’t been ideal, but if you can bundle up for 20 minutes, just a little walk outside can make you feel better! It gives you a chance out of the house and enjoy some fresh air. Save the killer workouts for when you are back into your routine.
We all have that Monica closet; you know the one where you stuff everything in there and close the door. This year I decided to tackle ours and organize it going into the new year. And it made me feel so much better! I decluttered our linen closet, bought some new baskets, and got rid of old towels and sheets we are no longer using. Now goal for 2018 is keep it this way!
We love cooking in our home, and for the past couple of weeks, we have been eating a good bit of frozen meals or going out to eat. Cooking is one way we spend time together in the evenings, and by grocery shopping and prepping ingredients, we began to feel back at home. New Year’s Eve night I cooked Red Wine Braised Short Ribs, and we plated it up, helping to make us feel a little more normal.
5. Wind Down
This is probably one of your most important; with all this running around and trying to get back into your routine, you need some you time. Treat yourself to a glass of wine, watch a movie, take a bath, do a face mask, just relax before you get back into work to wind down from the crazy emotional few weeks.
How are you getting back into the daily routine post holidays? Any tips for what helps you?
Have a wonderful weekend!
