There is a down jacket, or “puffer” as some call them, for each decade spanning back to the 40’s when Eddie Bauer created the first one. They are made for keeping the “wearer warm” and remain functional with outdoor activities. I finally jumped on the bandwagon this season, and added one to my wardrobe. And I am in love!
I bought the nano puff from Patagonia, so it is the perfect “temperature” for the South Carolina winters. (And for our weekend trips to Knoxville here and there). This jacket is water resistant, and windproof, but also has a sleek look that is flattering on us women. The “nano” part is a thinner down material, the regular down jacket is made for even colder temperatures. For those of us in milder climates, trust me, this will keep you plenty warm! The other great thing about this jacket is the ability to pack it; the material is thin enough that placing it in your suitcase wont take up majority of your packing space. I can’t speak to being able to go climbing, but reviews say it was voted Editor’s Choice for climbing and it easily fits in their backpacks when the weather warms up. (Just ask Charlotte and Syd in Washington :))
Black was my personal favorite to go with my outfits, but they have a wide range of colors. There are the basic colors that will reappear each season, but there are also new colors that differ from year to year. Not only do they have bright colors like the ones from the 80’s, they also have fun patterns that give it something extra!
Patagonia is not the only company where you can find the “nano puff”; North Face, REI, Eddie Bauer, and Mountain Hardwear are some other brands that carry the different down jackets. The “puffer” also comes in vests, hoodies, and longer coats to fit your winter needs. Ladies, they make plenty of men’s styles if you need a holiday gift idea for the man in your life. This is the perfect winter accessory to keep you warm the whole season. What else is there to love when your able to find a functional winter coat that won’t swallow you whole?!
Overall, this is one of my new favorite winter staples. I can wear it in the mornings on the way to work, to a barre class, or out on a Saturday night. You’re going to fall in love with one too!
